Life Coach BFF Show | Heather Pettey
Hi Friend, Elliot Kallen is joining us on Life Coach BFF Show to discuss depression in teens and teen suicide. He points out some of the warning signs and ways we can hopefully identify a potentially dangerous situation in order to prevent a bad ending.
Elliot is the Co-Founder and President of A Brighter Day, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping teens manage depression and stress.
Elliot and his wife started the nonprofit in 2015 in memory of their youngest son, Jake, who committed suicide at 19.
Every year, millions of teenagers struggle with thoughts of depression, deep sadness, isolation, stress, and the feeling of helplessness. Because of their mental health issues, thousands commit suicide, making it one of the leading causes of death among teens in the US.
Sadly, and too often, the parents of these teens are the last to learn about their child's mental problems, and sometimes it's too late to take action.
A Brighter Day aims to stop teen suicide by educating teens and their parents about mental disorders, and providing resources they can use to reach out and communicate when depression and stress are affecting either their own or the lives of those around them.
They have helped thousands of teens deal with mental health issues while still allowing them to retain their privacy and dignity.
Elliot is also actively involved in several other nonprofit organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club of Contra Costa, and Congregation B’nai Shalom, for which he has helped raise millions of dollars.
For nearly 30 years, he has also run a wealth management firm, Prosperity Financial Group, which helps individuals achieve their retirement goals and uniquely invest their assets.

Hey Friend! In episode 107, you will learn ways to help your teen transition during a move. BFF Susan Miller's tactical steps can be applied in any season of change. Listen for messages that will change your mindset about happiness as it relates to your teen and why you are not solely responsible.
Susan is invited to speak throughout the U.S. and internationally at church conferences, women's events, corporate venues, and at military installations. Those whose lives have been uprooted by a move resonate with her unique and hope-filled message to look to God in the midst of change and uncertainty.
Although often asked to speak about the impact of a move, her other topics include leading a life of faith, pursuing spiritual growth, and thriving amidst the demands of life, marriage, and parenting. Women are eager to learn how to successfully face life's challenges and they appreciate the experience, wisdom, and humor that Susan brings to her speaking and teaching.
Susan is best known for her book, After the Boxes are Unpacked. For more than 25 years, uprooted women around the world have gathered together in churches, neighborhoods, community centers, military installations, and missionary headquarters for a group study based on the book. By the end of the study, these women are grateful for the friends they’ve made and for the deep hope and trust they’ve found in God.
As America's Moving Coach® and Founder of Just Moved Ministry, Susan has been a popular guest on radio, TV, and streaming programs that have addressed the emotional challenges and the opportunities for spiritual growth brought on by a major life change— especially a move. Her articles on this subject have appeared in many Christian publications in print and online. Susan has even hosted her own radio talk show, Just Moved!
Established in 1995, Just Moved Ministry is a non-profit, global organization dedicated to the emotional well-being and spiritual growth of women who are uprooted by a move. Through Biblical teaching and one-on-one encouragement, Just Moved prepares, inspires, and equips a woman to trust God with her future, put down new roots, and embrace life in a new community.
Susan lives in Scottsdale, AZ and treasures her role as mother of two and grandmother of six.
Thanks so much for listening!
I love you,
Heather

Hi Friend! I'm so excited about my new book out now on Amazon, Keep It Simple, Sarah. I wrote it for you and your LP (little precious teen daughter or granddaughter.) This book contains the wisdom and knowledge you have tucked in your mind and heart and want to share with your daughter, but she doesn't want to hear from you. The bottom line is this: Teen girls don't want advice from their mothers. OUCH!!! It's so painful, and I'm so sorry, but they're more like to take "suggestions" from someone else or from something they've seen or read than listen to you. That's why providing them with the info you want them to have is so important.
Keep It Simple, Sarah contains modern day advice along with your grandmother's "nuggets." It's filled with verses, etiquette tips, and lessons that will help your teen throughout their journey into womanhood. Click here to purchase ! Christmas will be here soon, and this book will make the PERFECT gift!
Today, I'm visiting with my friend Stephanie Pletka from podcast Motherhood Mindset and author of Living Your Best Life. We always have fun together, and we especially love it when you join our conversation. Thank you so much for spending time with us today.
